The British designer Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at 80 years old.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

This news arrives less than a month after he debuted his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Artist Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price moved to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show was launched by looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price designed the iconic jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge elements of men's and women's fashion along with his masterful technique in crafting body-hugging looks made him a "genuine original," according to the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her US tour following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Gender-Fluid Fashion: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The fashion world says farewell to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
