Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland has died aged 24.

Kneeland was drafted by the Cowboys in the second round of the draft in 2024 and played 18 times for the team, including four starts.

He scored his first touchdown in Tuesday's defeat to the Arizona Cardinals when he retrieved a blocked punt.

"Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organisation," the Dallas Cowboys said.

"We send our condolences regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his loved ones."

Kneeland was selected by Dallas with the 56th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft after playing college football for Western Michigan University.

His representative, Jonathan Perzley, said his "heart aches" for the passing of a player who "gave his all" into each opportunity.

"I saw him strive his way from a aspiring young man at Western Michigan with a goal to being a respected professional for the Dallas Cowboys," Perzley said.

The NFL said it is "deeply saddened" by the news.
