Individual Who Reached For Ariana Grande at Film Launch Prohibited from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality who vaulted over a barricade and reached for celebrity Ariana Grande has been deported and barred from Singapore.
The man, aged 26, was handed a penalty to over a week in jail for causing a public disturbance and has now been "prohibited from returning to Singapore," Singaporean immigration authorities stated to local media.
He forced his way through camera crews and approached aggressively the celebrity, who was attending the Asian debut for the film on November 13. Co-star Cynthia Erivo intervened to remove him from Grande.
Wen has a history of interrupting performances and high-profile gatherings, including rushing the stage at the pop star's Australian show in June this year.
The event provoked strong reactions in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of triggering past trauma for the singer.
The pop star has spoken of dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at her performance in the UK city in May 2017 took the lives of 22 people and affected hundreds.
During Wen's trial, the authorities learned he had attempted to intrude on the film's premiere twice, according to local news sources.
He then made a another effort to cross the barriers. Security staff stopped him and pinned him down.
Wen later posted video clips appreciating the celebrity for allowing his presence and said he was "at liberty."
Law enforcement detained him the following day and brought charges against him with disorderly conduct, to which Wen pleaded guilty.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was quoted by Channel News Asia as saying that the man sought attention, adding that he was incorrect to believe he would not experience repercussions.
The actress has not spoken about the situation.
The co-star mentioned the incident to the press, saying that she "just wanted to verify my friend was secure."
"I think he didn't mean us danger, but you never know with those things, and I wanted to make sure that she was alright. That was my first instinct," she stated.
