Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the team's worst streak since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received a lot of support from above,” Slot stated.
“It's important to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the club's leadership, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He further stated, “During our regular exchanges I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them since this defeat yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the words.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I play for the team I support. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a phase like this with performances so bad.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our chest. And as long as it is removed, we will always compete.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, prove once more what this club is about and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“At this moment, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
