Supporters Urge Arrest of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are urging that a man who leaped a barricade and seized the performer during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A viral video reveals the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a promenade flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "released after being taken in", though official papers revealed that he was due to attend court on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was faced legal action.
Pattern of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram profile includes recordings of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in earlier this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user questioned.
Supporters Voice Worry Over the Star's Safety
Many supporters accused Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the finale of her 2017 concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring many.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" said another response on Instagram.
Some fans also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being adequately prepared; while others requested social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande appeared shocked when she was touched by the individual. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted consoling her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Hundreds of fans had gathered in a crowd of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific debut in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had stood in line for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be premiered on 21 November, is the sequel of a two-film adaptation of the well-known theatrical musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely bond between two very different witches.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who acts as the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown embroidered with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of last year in the UK, and received ten Academy Award nods, securing two for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
