A campaign is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign hopes to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.

A Chance for Unity and an "Chart Upset"

Composer and producer Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians during the holidays. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be fantastic if that occurred, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”

Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's defiant core message.

“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we deserve as Palestinians.”

Track's Background and Featured Artists

The track was produced in the wake of a major charity concert held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.

The diverse array of performers contributing to Lullaby includes a group of well-known figures from the scene. All took part in the September show, which successfully generated a considerable total for humanitarian aid.

Production and Release

Lullaby was brought to life by a team of producers and composers. The song showcases a fusion of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.

The team running the project have clarified that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These donations will be allocated to projects in Palestine through an partnering humanitarian organization.

“We haven't set a specific target,” a spokesperson commented. “We’ll go for whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”

The situation in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings described as destroyed or damaged.

“Against that backdrop, a handful of millions is unlikely to make that much difference. But I think what does make a difference is first of all making this cause better known and showing that another narrative exists.”

The track is set to be released at the end of the week. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from later in the month.
