The Showrunner Discloses He Has a Plan for How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... For Now.
The creative mastermind never anticipated that Pluribus would emerge as a cultural phenomenon. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I was surprised by the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”
Now that Season 1 of the hit program coming to an end—and the next chapter greenlit and underway—Gilligan and his team reflected on the audience reaction and whether it will impact the future direction of Pluribus.
Regarding the Tremendous Viewer Reception
One could easily to get distracted by the widespread acclaim and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is doing his best to steer clear of all that.
“It feels like an endless supply of your favorite dessert and being laughing uncontrollably,” he describes. “It's amazing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be never leaving the house from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”
In spite of trying to stay away, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it influence the direction of the show.
“We make no attempt to tailor anything,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by what people are saying.”
“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.
A Pressing Query: Does the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?
Given that the writers are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.
“We have some compelling concepts about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a solid concept for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I suspect we'll be doing that.”
Alternatively, if all else fails, Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to serve as a last resort.
“I constantly suggest that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” he says humorously, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”
Alternatively, why not reference the classics?
“I want Carol to open her eyes with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.
Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV.
