Nearly a week following the devastating hurricane pummelled into the island's west coast with historic intensity, locals in affected areas along the coast are persistently anticipating for assistance.

Numerous thoroughfares are blocked by debris and residents remain cut off with limited provisions, no power or running water, and uncertainty about recovery timelines.

Growing Fatalities

The government said on the weekend that no fewer than 28 individuals in Jamaica have perished after the storm struck as a monster category five storm with nearly 300 km/h wind speeds.

This marks approximately half again as many in the fatalities within a day, and the number could rise as officials clear their way into previously inaccessible areas in the near future.

"Refuelling, Areas for Landing, Accessibility and Timing/Visibility," authorities clarified.

The country's leader emphasized that the "initial priority is on removing wreckage, fixing necessary utilities", as well as distributing nourishment and healthcare items.

Individual Accounts

Among a minor neighborhood just outside of Whitehouse, a local resident rested against a slab of broken concrete. Nearby, the fishing village he has called home his entire life has been destroyed, including his income source.

"Our community is completely destroyed," he stated. Maritime facilities were wrecked and is now "flat"
