The teenager has featured in seven matches for the Spanish giants, including five appearances in the starting lineup.

Whenever a 18-year-old makes club a historic moment in a pivotal European tie against Manchester City, it inevitably draws praise and the spotlight.

During his maiden start in the tournament - and fifth appearance for the club - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the 15-time European champions claimed a three-nil last-16 first-leg lead at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The teenager, who also made his Real debut in the play-off round a month ago with a substitute appearance at Benfica, then helped the Madrid side overcome the English champions in the midweek return to confirm a last eight place.

Aged 18 years and 226 days, the midfielder became the team's most youthful starter to start twice in the Champions League knockout stages, surpassing star Vini Jr's previous mark by a week and a half.

Rapid Ascent Through The Academy

This talent is the most recent to emerge from the club's academy and is quickly establishing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most promising protegees.

He signed for Real from Leganes in the summer of 2023, having previously been with Atletico Madrid and Getafe's youth teams, and initially featuring for the Juvenil C team, where he quickly made a positive impact.

He worked his way up to the reserve side and it was during a pre-season game in which they played against the senior squad, then managed by Arbeloa, where the teenager is said to have caught the attention of the present manager, who replaced the previous coach in the new year.

Spanish media would later label the moment as "an instant connection," adding he stood out not only for his skill on the ball, but for the vitality, personality and drive he brought to the side.

'His Best Attribute Remains His Character'

In the summer of 2025, ex-manager Xabi Alonso invited Pitarch to practice with the first team and gave him minutes in pre-season.

However, it was the change in manager that proved the defining moment in his development as he came on as a second-half replacement in each leg against Benfica that set up the clash with Manchester City.

"I've dreamed of this each night when sleeping, the very first time I began playing football, each day you head to training and every day you have a game," said Pitarch after his debut.

"I have just achieved my dream with the greatest club in the world and in the best competition."

Given a first start in the Spanish league against Getafe - where he was for four years after arriving from Atleti in 2018 - he has retained his spot for the next four as fitness issues to Jude Bellingham and Ceballos provided an opening.

The teenager has taken it with performances that have belied his youth and inexperience.

"He is a extremely fast footballer, and you can observe what he's capable of," said Arbeloa. "He is incredibly energetic, with excellent endurance, work-rate and mobility."

The player's mindset has also impressed his coach.

"His standout trait is his character," added Arbeloa. "He constantly demands the possession, and even under pressure, he doesn't feel it.

"I realize people are astonished to see him start in a Champions League match, but he is selected because I had complete trust in him to do his normal game.

"He will keep receiving chances with the main squad. It's a pleasure to coach a talent like him."

A Future International Decision

Born in Fuenlabrada, in the Spanish capital's community, and grew up fully immersed in the local game, moving through local academies before entering Real Madrid's renowned La Fabrica system.

He possesses dual Moroccan and Spanish citizenship, offering him the option to represent both nations at senior international level.

Under Fifa eligibility rules, footballers may appear for multiple nations at youth level without being permanently tied, with the ultimate choice only binding once they play in a official full international.

Pitarch has featured for Spain at youth level, turning out for both the U19 and under-20 teams, and took part in the 2025 Youth World Cup, where Spain made it to the quarter-finals.

Despite this, he has not yet decided to any senior national team, who are watching his progress with interest.

In a recent interview, the player said: "I haven't made my ultimate choice so far. My situation is great with the Spanish federation, but I'll make a decision in the near future."

This scenario echoes that of other bi-national talents such as club colleague Brahim Diaz and Barca star Lamine Yamal. Whereas 18-year-old Lamine opted for Spain, Diaz decided to represent Morocco.

Eyes on the Prize

At present, Pitarch's focus is on making his mark in the Madrid lineup and rewarding Arbeloa's faith.

He featured for over an hour in the two-one victory at City, which sealed a five-one overall triumph and a last-eight matchup with Bayern Munich.

He was replaced by another academy player in Angel to emphasise Arbeloa's trust in the next generation to aid the club pursue trophies to come.

After his notable contributions so far on European football's biggest stage, Pitarch is expected to be a central figure in that.

"Arbeloa handles me the identical way. We handle it very normally. I attempt not to overanalyze it too much - I have to earn my minutes on the pitch," he said following the success at Etihad Stadium.
